You want to capture your screen but you want a better program than Microsoft Paint to do that and also free if possible? 'Gadwin PrintScreen' might be the right solution. It's free and it seems to work pretty good.
You can capture the content of the screen with a single keystroke and save it to an already selected folder. The output file types could be BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG, and TIF. There are four ways of capturing an image: 'Current Window', 'Client Window', 'Full Screen', and 'Rectangular Area' and you can choose whether you want to capture the mouse cursor or not.
In some cases the functionality of the program is a little odd. For example if you use the 'Rectangular Area', after you make the selection you have to hit enter in order to capture that area. Some interesting features in this programs seemed to be the delay of the capture, where you can delay the capture in a range from 1 to 60 seconds, and the stamps. The stamps are similar to watermarks. When using stamps you can select the color and the level of transparency which will be applied to your text.
The user interface is intuitive and well organized. I think that even a newbie can use this program without problems.
Pluses: It's free and it works good.
Drawbacks / flaws: The magnifier window which is showed when using 'Rectangular Area' stays in the right corner unless you move it. In my opinion it should move when you go with the mouse on top of it.
In conclusion: A nice program that is free and easy to use if you're looking to capture the content of your the screen.

Gadwin PrintScreen captures the contents of the screen with a single keystroke. The captured screen can then be sent to the printer or saved to disk as a file in 6 different graphics file formats. First I had difficulties with the bmp-format, but since changing to jpg all runs perfectly.

The road to 56 mod. Gadwin PrintScreen isn't so versatile as, say it, SnagIt but it is small, free and does it work very well. A propper tool for an average computer user, perfect for simple screenshot tasks.

blows snagit away!!! and its free. recommend to anyone that requires screen shots and doesn't want to deal with the hassle of licensing because its FREE!!!! I use all the time!!

This app is great, many options, easy to use, and in case a java or javascript blocks print screen or right click or drag and drop, you can assign screenshot function to any function key or a key combination and still take the shot..
I've been using it for over a year now, tried other apps like it, none was as stable as this.

I really don't see the need for these types of programs. If you want to capture a screenshot just hit 'PrintScreen' for an entire desktop capture or 'ALT + PrintScreen' for an active window capture..it's copied to the clipboard so you can paste it into whatever image software you like and then save it as whatever image format you like..it's really not that difficult and it's functionality is built into the OS.
I guess it's a good thing that this one is freeware, I've seen people charge for this kind of software before and I think that it is completely ridiculous and irresponsible to take advantage of people in such a manner.

Urgh, on reboot this app auto-ran itself on startup, NO option anywhere in the prog to disable that, and ALL the settings I'd changed pre-reboot had reset to defaults. Sloppy..

this is a waste of time.
you only have one capture option at a time, so if you want to capture a window after captureing the whole screen you have to go and set it up to capture client window :/
it also doesn't automaticaly give each capture it's own name.
this is so far from beta I can't believe it's here
the only good thing about it is the option to save directly as .jpg
if you want a simple print screen capture tool to quickly
capture full sceen and client windows and even stuff like screen saver useing the print sceen key or combo alt+print screen
